According to police, Jackson entered the Family Dollar located in the 3200 block of Lancaster Road in November 2022 and witnessed Betts engaged in a physical fight with store employees. According to reports, Jackson shot Betts, who collapsed outside of the store and was declared dead on the scene.

Police said Betts was shoplifting from the store when the fight with employees began.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Jackson declined requests for comment when reached by phone.

The case was dismissed by a grand jury on July 18.
