Whose Books, located on Davis Street, announced the launch of the Activating Reading Communities Organization (ARCO) nonprofit this week.

The nonprofit will address barriers to book access, establish communal spaces for interaction with books and enhance Dallas’ city-wide reading culture.

“Book access and ownership have a direct link to reading culture, reading achievement, and a community’s social cohesion. Addressing book access and ownership within our community is an equity issue that we are ready to tackle head-on,” Whose Books Founder Claudia Vega said.

Funding for the ARCO comes from The Writer’s Garrett, an Oak Cliff-based nonprofit that promotes the literary arts.

Events and programming by the ARCO have not yet been announced.
