For two of the students it was their first time leaving the country, and for the two others, their first time on an airplane, according to Dallas ISD.

The students performed a nearly 2 minute routine to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” at various points along the parade route.

“They’re very good leaders. We ‘lead first, cheer second,’ that’s our motto at Sunset,” Sunset Head Cheerleading Coach Natasha Mitchell said. “They were excited to come back and tell their families and friends about their experiences. Seeing them take in a new experience was heartwarming; it was confirmation of the hard work the kids and I put in.”

In addition to performing in the parade, the students were able to sight-see across London during a seven-day trip. Highlights included visiting St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London and seeing the musical Wicked on West End.

The England trip is just the latest recognition the Sunset cheerleading team has received.

The team recently qualified for the University Interscholastic League’s (UIL) Spirit State Championship for the first time in a decade. Four other members of the cheerleading team marched in the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
