Coombs Creek Trail is currently being extended to Beckley Ave. Once complete, this project will connect North Oak Cliff to downtown with a new, car-free alternative.

Teams have installed the two remaining pedestrian bridge spans, which had been delayed in recent months due to the rain. The HAWK traffic signal installation has started on Beckley Ave., which will be essential to ensuring people can safely walk and bike across the street.

The entire project is scheduled to be complete by September 2024 and a ribbon cutting will be held to celebrate the transformational park and transportation project.

A bike/pedestrian trail is also under construction to connect Coombs Creek Trail with Moss Park. Trees are being planted alongside the new trail, and will eventually provide shade for pedestrians and cyclists. The project is expected to be complete in November 2024.

Additionally, plans for new pocket park at 902 S Waverly Drive are in the works. City staff has identified a parcel at 902 S Waverly Drive to create a new pocket park in what is currently a park desert.

The new park would be located near Sunset Hills, Hampton Hills, East Hampton Hills, and South Edgefield. The item still needs approval of the full Park & Recreation Board (scheduled for August 1) and then will go to the full Council (likely on August 14).

If things go according to plan, the city will acquire the lot in September 2024 and do some basic clean up and maintenance. Staff will then work to understand what funding opportunities exist and will seek community input to understand what their preferences are for that site.
