Heinz Becker, the Chicago Cubs first baseman from Oak Cliff

Heinz Becker played first base for the Chicago Cubs in 1945, and he played in the World Series against the Detroit Tigers that October.

Becker was one of the few German-born players ever to play in Major League Baseball, and he was an all-around athlete. We came across this 1942 cartoon from the Milwaukee Journal’s Al Rainovic, who did a great job telling Becker’s story.
