A stay of execution was granted for the 500 block of 8th Street, where swift demolition had been expected.
The City of Dallas issued a stop-work order Monday, contending that work had begun without a permit.
Besides that, the city found that some of the properties fall under the “demolition-delay overlay,” which triggers a 45-day waiting period before they can be torn down. The delay gives the property owners a chance to meet with community stakeholders and explore alternatives to demolition.
Lennar Multifamily Corp. owns all but one property in the quaint Bishop Arts block and has plans to construct four-story buildings with 225 apartments, which zoning in the Bishop/Davis area allows.
