Bishop Arts’ trendy bar scene has gained another drinkery this month with a new speakeasy concept inside Chimichurri, an Argentinian staple with a hidden hangout.
The speakeasy is called The Branca Room, a nod to Fernet-Branca, an Italian bitter.
While Chimichurri’s menu is all Argentinian, The Branca Room is a spin on both Italian and Argentinian cultures. Each culture is not only represented in the dark and intimate room’s paintings and murals, but in the drinks themselves.
James Slater, one of the contributing bartenders to the cocktail menu, created his own version of the Fernet-Branca for the speakeasy, aged 180 days. The bar also boasts homemade amaro and vermouth.
The Branca Room opened with 12 cocktails, ranging from smoky to fruity and everywhere in between.
The highlight of the night is the Amaro Transfusion, which includes homemade vermouth, Six Grapes Port, Jasmine and Redemption Rye.
Once a month, The Branca Room will also host exclusive Bourbon Nights with rare and highly sought-after bottles for whiskey enthusiasts with dates to come.
The bar is located at 324 W 7th Street and is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 7 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
