Leonard Neal, 41, was locatedĀ in the area of Polk and Camp Wisdom on July 7 by U.S. Marshal North Texas Fugitive Task Force and Dallas patrol officers.

Police say that as officers approached, Neal injured himself before being taken into custody. Dallas Fire Rescue took Neal to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition Monday, officials say.

Neal was wanted on charges of Aggravated Kidnapping, Kidnapping, and Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

Police declined to comment on what manner Neal injured himself.

According to police, Neal is a suspect in last month’s kidnapping that resulted in an AMBER Alert for 7-year-oldĀ Lillie Anderson.

Anderson, Ā and her 9-year-old brother left an apartment in the 1500 block of Argentina Drive on the afternoon of June 12. They were walking when they were approached by a man in a gray crossover type vehicle who police believe to be Neal.

Neal offered the children a ride, police say, andĀ drove the children to a store in the area of West Kiest Boulevard at South Polk StreetĀ whereĀ the boy got out of the car to go inside. When he turned around, Neal had left the location with Anderson, police say.

According to officials the boy was found in the parking lot by a witness who called police, and an investigation began.

Anderson was found six hours later at 12:40 a.m. walking up a sidewalk in the apartment complex the children had left earlier that day and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

On June 14, police named Neal as a suspect in the kidnapping.

According to FOX4, Neal was located by police after a couple recognized him at a bus station and called 911.

“Because of the crime he had committed I really wasn’t going to forget his face,” the man who recognized Neal told reporters.
