Though South Polk Pizzeria has been open since December, their summer grand opening comes as final touches on the restaurant are officially in place, owner Terrill Burnett said. For instance, when the restaurant first opened there was no dining room and the restaurant operated as a to-go spot only.

The grand opening will be a community event with a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m. and free snow cones from A Touch of Sno for the first 300 people. There will also be raffles for items such as book bags and school supplies.

“We really just wanted to do an event and give back to the customer,” owner Terrill Burnett said.

South Polk Pizzeria is a “Neo-New York style pizza,” according to their website.

“We partnered with the developer Monte Anderson,” Burnett said. “He’s a big part of the project here, the development of this building.”

Anderson, the face of Tyler Station, encouraged Burnett to look into starting a pizza restaurant. Before that, Burnett pitched the restaurant as a barbecue place, according to Dallas Culture Map.

According to Dallas Weekly, Burnett hand prepares fermented dough, vegetables and cheese, all as part of the neo-new york style.

“I worked on my dough for a year and a half, baking pizzas every day, and learned how to handle it,” Burnett told Culture Map.
