Time to stow away ornaments in shreds of newspaper from 1998, bunch up your lights in a tangled mess that is sure to frustrate December 2024 you, and find a place for every White Elephant gift exchange treasure you were lucky enough to come home with this holiday season.

And of course, it’s time to figure out what the heck to do with the live tree in your living room.

Here are some of your options:

Tree disposal in our neighborhood:

The Southwest (Oak Cliff) Transfer Station is accepting live tree drop offs for disposal at no charge. Recycling is not available at this location.

Located at 4610 S. Westmoreland Road, the dump is open Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. – 9 a.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.  That said, the landfill will have modified hours around New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, so check the website here for more accurate listings.

The Southwest Transfer Station is only available to residents, so you will need proof of residency in order to drop off your tree.

Tree recycling in Dallas:

The Northwest (Bachman) Transfer Station and McCommas Bluff Landfill will be accepting trees for recycling through Feb. 3.

In order to be successfully mulched, the trees must be real, not flocked, and must have all decorations, tinsel and lights removed. Mulch from the trees will be used on city property landscaping projects.

Brush and Bulky item collection

Residents can have up to 10 cubic yards of Christmas tree brush picked up for Brush and Bulky Item Collection through the Department of Sanitation.

Service requests can be filled out online. Trees must be moved to the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. the Monday of the pickup week in order to ensure pickup.
