Senior Corporal Hannah Tamez was named “officer of the month” in a lions club ceremony at Tyler Street Church Wednesday.

Tamez is a 17-year veteran of the department and has been assigned to the animal-cruelty team since its inception in 2018.

“As a detective for the Animal Cruelty Team, Senior Corporal Tamez has filed many cases and worked closely with the Dallas County Assistant District Attorney for the Animal Cruelty Unit to clear multiple offenses and to ensure the safety of our furry animal friends by being their spokesperson,” a DPD media release states.

She often adopts or fosters animals herself, through Dallas Animal Services and the SPCA of Texas.

Tamez has been married for 18 years to another DPD officer, Senior Corporal Mario Tamez. They have three children, and their household includes four dogs, three cats, a rooster and 25 hens, four guinea pigs, three lizards and eight frogs.
