We all understand that construction, reconstruction, permits and all that jazz can be unpredictable — so we have some very vague news, but news nonetheless, about business happenings in the Oak Cliff vicinity.

At Berkley’s Market, 634 W. Davis, we have signage up — a new development — and chairs and tables moving in today (confirmed visually Wednesday a.m.). When queried about an opening day via Instagram, the response was “soon.”

As previously reported, the market’s Dallas-based owners parted ways with Royal Blue Grocery earlier this year; the Royal Blue in Highland Park closed, and two other locations, in Downtown and in the Dallas Art District, rebranded to Berkley’s Market beginning July 1. The locale in question is opening in the former Bolsa Mercado on 634 W. Davis.

Anxiously awaiting this veggie sandwich and will purchase one on opening day.

In other news, Anytime Fitness Bishop Arts, 611 North Bishop, is closed for renovations that are supposed to last about two weeks, beginning one week ago, which means they should be reopen by next Monday. Based on the state of the space today, that seems very optimistic. However, this is the latest from them, on that. Essentially the Bishop location is getting a new look and co-owners Jacqui Bliss and Renee Reed note that the “hard reopen” date is Oct. 18 but they hope to open sooner.

In retail news you don’t want to admit you were wondering about, Five Below — the place The Washington Post calls “a wonderland of things no one needs” — is under construction at Wynnewood Village Shopping Center. The folks at the corporate office say that store is not slated to open in 2021, so expect it to debut in 2022 (which I would have known had I simply looked at my own photo a little closer).
